TVMTA Sonatina Competition 2021
Sonatina Competition is open to students of TVMTA members. Non-member teachers may participate, but will be charged a $20 fee plus $5 per student. Please consider joining our organization at MTNA.org. Entry fees for Levels YB-2 are $25 per student. Levels 3-5 are $30 per student. Levels 6-10 are $40 per student. Level Young Artist is $45 per student. Young Artist should submit repertoire for approval to Competition Chair by October 1, 2021 (clivepianostudio@gmail.com). You may play a very advanced piece of your choosing. Please submit your repertoire choice to Competition Chair by October 1, 2021. Pieces must be more advanced than Level 10. Examples: Chopin Ballades, Scherzos, more difficult Etudes; Liszt Mephisto Waltz, Hungarian Rhapsodies, Gnomenreigen, Un Sospiro; Beethoven difficult sonatas like Op. 57, Op. 53, Op. 106; Debussy Image, Estampes, Pagodes, Etudes; Ravel Gaspard de la nuit, Alborada, Tombeau de Couperin; Bach Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue; Schumann Papillons, Abegg Variations, In der Nacht; Kapustin any sonata or concert etude; Prokofiev Difficult Sonata movements, Sonata #3, Diabolic Suggestions, Toccata, Etudes; Weber Moto Perpetuo in C; Ginastera Sonata #1 1st or 4th movements; Mendelssohn Variations Serieuses, etc. Note: length of piece is your choice, but note that for very long pieces, judges may cut you off at their discretion with no penalty to the performer.
